What you can realistically expect for under $10

Budget VPS plans are perfect for a personal website, a staging copy of a project, a small API, a monitoring node, a Discord or Telegram bot, or simply learning Linux. At this price point you will typically get one or two vCPUs, a modest amount of RAM and SSD or NVMe storage. That is plenty for lightweight workloads, but it is not the place to run a busy online store or a heavy database.

The goal on a cheap VPS is not to find the biggest numbers. It is to find a plan where the advertised resources are real and the provider will still be reasonable to deal with a year from now.

Where low prices hide their trade-offs

  • Renewal pricing. A plan can look like a bargain only because the first month or year is discounted. Compare the monthly price and the renewal price in the table before deciding.
  • Long prepay terms. Some headline prices require paying for 12, 24 or 36 months upfront. That locks you in if performance disappoints.
  • Shared CPU. Entry plans almost always use shared vCPUs. Occasional bursts are fine, but constant high CPU usage may be throttled under a fair-use policy.
  • Paid extras. Backups, extra IPv4 addresses, control panels and Windows licenses are frequently add-ons that can double the bill.
  • Support scope. Cheap plans are usually unmanaged. Expect help with the network and hardware, not with your application.

How to pick a cheap VPS that does not disappoint

Start from the workload

Write down what you will run and how much memory it needs. A static site behind Nginx needs very little. A small WordPress install with a database is happier with at least 1 GB of RAM, and anything with Docker containers benefits from 2 GB or more.

Prefer monthly or hourly billing first

Take a plan month to month or with hourly billing while you test speed and stability. Once you are satisfied, switch to a longer term if the discount is worth it.

Use the money-back window

If a provider offers a money-back guarantee, run your real software during that period. Check disk speed, network latency to your audience and how quickly support answers a simple ticket.

Look for sensible defaults

A firewall, IPv6, snapshot support and a working rescue console are small things that save a lot of trouble on a budget server. Basic DDoS filtering at the network level is a bonus worth having even on inexpensive plans.

When to spend more

If your project earns money, starts to see steady traffic or needs dedicated CPU time, move up a tier. A slightly more expensive plan with NVMe storage and included backups is often cheaper than one outage. For a broader view of all price ranges, return to the main VPS hosting comparison.

Prices are refreshed from provider plans. Even on a cheap VPS, check three things: the virtualization type (KVM is better than containers), the storage type (NVMe or SSD, not HDD) and whether an IPv4 address is included. Want to test before paying? See VPS hosting with a free trial.

How much cheap VPS hosting costs

Cheap VPS hosting starts at $1.83/mo. Our catalog lists 186 plans here, from budget to high-end. The final price depends on CPU cores, RAM and storage type, and on whether an intro price renews higher.

Frequently asked questions about cheap VPS hosting

Is a VPS under $10 good enough for a website?
Yes for personal sites, blogs and small projects with moderate traffic. Busy stores or resource-heavy applications usually need more RAM and dedicated CPU.
Why are some cheap VPS prices only available on long terms?
Providers trade a lower monthly rate for a longer commitment. Check the monthly price, the required term and the renewal price before paying upfront.
Do cheap VPS plans include backups?
Often not. Many budget plans offer snapshots or backups as a paid add-on, so factor that cost into your comparison.
Can I run Windows on a cheap VPS?
Sometimes, but a Windows Server license usually adds a monthly fee and Windows needs more RAM. A Linux VPS is the more economical choice at this price.
