Kinsta at a glance

Kinsta is a managed WordPress host founded in 2013 that runs every site in its own Linux container on Google Cloud Platform. There is no cPanel, no shared server and no domain registration: you get the MyKinsta dashboard, 30 data centers to pick from, a Cloudflare-powered edge in front of your site and a support team that answers in chat around the clock. Application and database hosting, which Kinsta used to sell under its own name, now live under the separate Sevalla brand, so what you buy at kinsta.com today is WordPress hosting and nothing else.

Who it is for

Kinsta fits agencies, publishers and shops that would rather pay a premium than run a server. If you need root access, cron-heavy custom apps, email hosting or a cheap parking spot for ten small sites, this is the wrong shelf. If a day of downtime costs more than a month of hosting, the price stops looking silly.

Pricing and renewals

Plans come in two shapes. The Single tiers are one WordPress install metered by visits: Single 35k is $35 a month, or $350 a year, which Kinsta advertises as $30 a month. Single 65k is $50 monthly, Single 125k is $90 monthly and Single 315k is $170 monthly, with annual rates of $42, $75 and $142. The multi-site WP tiers are metered by server bandwidth instead: WP 2 is $70 a month for two installs and 40 GB, WP 5 is $115 for five installs and 65 GB, WP 10 is $225, WP 20 is $340 and WP 40 is $450. Annual billing takes roughly two months off the yearly total.

There is no teaser price here. The monthly figure you sign up on is the figure you keep paying, and an annual plan renews at the annual rate, so nothing doubles at month thirteen. At the time of checking, Kinsta was running a first-month-free promotion on selected entry plans for new customers, which is a discount on the first invoice rather than a lower ongoing rate.

What is included, and what costs extra

Every install comes with a free staging environment, free SSL with wildcard support, free malware removal, edge caching, the Kinsta CDN, bot protection, a built-in APM tool and free migrations. Backups are automatic daily with 14-day retention on the entry plans and 20 days higher up; hourly backups, longer retention and extra disk space are paid add-ons. The Cloudflare integration supplies the firewall and enterprise DDoS protection, so you are not billed separately for a WAF.

Overage fees

This is where Kinsta plans need care, because the published quotas are billed when you cross them:

  • visits: $0.50 per 1,000 visits over the plan allowance
  • server bandwidth: $0.50 per GB over the allowance on bandwidth-based plans
  • disk space: $2 per GB per month, prorated daily

Storage is the tight one. Single plans include 10 GB and the WP plans 20-60 GB, which is fine for a content site and cramped for a media library. Alerts fire at 80% and 100% of a quota, and upgrades are not applied retroactively, so an overage already earned still lands on the next invoice.

Performance and specs

Kinsta does not sell vCPU or RAM numbers on standard plans; the product is capacity managed for you, with dedicated virtual machines and higher PHP worker counts appearing on the larger tiers. Sites run on Google Cloud, backups go to Google Cloud Storage, and the CDN spans roughly 300 locations. The uptime guarantee is SLA-backed at 99.9%, with up to 99.99% available on custom plans; Kinsta states plainly that standard plans are not high-availability, since each site runs in a single container rather than behind a load balancer.

Data centers

Thirty regions are selectable per site, four of them in the United States: Ashburn, Chicago, Phoenix and San Jose. Canada has Montreal and Toronto, and the list continues through Sao Paulo, Santiago, Bogota, Monterrey, London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Paris, Madrid, Milan, Stockholm, Zurich, Jerusalem, Dubai, Riyadh, Johannesburg, Mumbai, Singapore, Batam, Tokyo, Osaka, Seoul, Sydney and Melbourne.

Support and refunds

Support is 24/7 live chat in eight languages plus tickets, staffed by engineers rather than a front line of scripts; there is no phone line for standard plans, and account managers appear only on the larger tiers. Payment is by credit or debit card through Stripe, with wire transfer or ACH available on annual plans. Refunds run on a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Verdict

Kinsta is expensive by design and honest about it: no intro pricing, no renewal jump, a clear list of what triggers an extra charge. The things to check before buying are the disk allowance and the visit or bandwidth quota, because those are what turn a $35 plan into a $70 invoice. For a business site on WordPress that needs a US or global edge and support that understands the stack, it is a defensible spend.
