SiteGround at a glance

SiteGround launched in 2004 and is still privately owned, which is unusual in a market dominated by a handful of holding groups. It describes itself as a group registered in the USA, the UK, Spain, Cyprus and Bulgaria, and says it powers three million domains with more than 500 staff. The product line is deliberately narrow: managed shared hosting tuned for WordPress and WooCommerce, a managed cloud tier, reseller and agency plans, plus a website builder, email marketing and domain registration. Everything runs on Google Cloud rather than on hardware SiteGround owns, with its own caching, security and Site Tools panel layered on top.

Who it is for

• WordPress and WooCommerce site owners who want managed updates, staging and caching without touching a server.
• Freelancers and small agencies juggling client sites who need collaborator accounts, white-label access and Git.
• Businesses that value a support team reachable by phone at three in the morning more than they value the lowest sticker price.

It is a poor fit for anyone who needs root access, a self-managed VPS, Windows Server, a dedicated machine or a game server. SiteGround simply does not sell those.

Pricing and renewals

This is the part that deserves the most attention. SiteGround quotes a deep introductory discount that applies to the first 12 months only, and the regular rate afterwards is roughly six times higher. StartUp is advertised at $2.99/mo and renews at $17.99/mo. GrowBig is $4.99/mo and renews at $29.99/mo. GoGeek is $7.99/mo and renews at $44.99/mo. In every case the promotional price requires paying twelve months up front, so StartUp costs about $36 at checkout and roughly $216 on the first renewal. The same plans at the same prices appear on the web hosting, WordPress and WooCommerce pages, so there is no cheaper door in.

The managed cloud tier works differently and is far more transparent: Jump Start is $100/mo, Business $200/mo, Business Plus $300/mo and Super Power $400/mo, all billed monthly with no introductory discount and no renewal jump. A slider on the same page lets you build a custom configuration between those tiers.

Shared plans

StartUp hosts one website with 10 GB of storage; GrowBig and GoGeek host unlimited websites with 50 GB and 100 GB respectively. Traffic is described as unlimited, although SiteGround publishes informal guidance of roughly 10,000 monthly visits for StartUp, about 100,000 for GrowBig and 400,000 or more for GoGeek. Every plan includes a free domain for the first year, wildcard SSL, unlimited email accounts, the in-house CDN, daily backups with 30 restore points and a free migration. GrowBig adds on-demand backups, staging and faster PHP; GoGeek adds Git, private DNS, white-label access and priority support. All three bundle an AI agent for WordPress.

Managed cloud

Cloud plans carry dedicated CPU cores and memory, from 4 cores and 8 GB up to 16 cores and 20 GB, with 40 to 160 GB of SSD storage and 5 TB of monthly transfer. They include a dedicated IP, automated scaling, white-label access and the ability to build custom sub-plans for clients. There is still no root shell: this is a managed cloud tier, closer to a very large isolated hosting account than to a traditional VPS, which is how SiteGround itself frames it.

Data centers

SiteGround runs 11 data centers in eight countries across four continents, all of them Google Cloud regions. In the USA those are Council Bluffs in Iowa, Ashburn in Virginia, Dallas in Texas and Los Angeles in California. Europe covers London, Eemshaven, Frankfurt, Paris and Madrid, and Asia-Pacific covers Singapore and Sydney. The data center is chosen during signup. On top of that, the free CDN serves cached content from more than 170 edge points, including Tokyo, Sao Paulo, Warsaw, Hamina and several US cities that are edge-only rather than full hosting locations.

Performance and reliability

SiteGround publishes a 99.9% uptime figure for its hosting services and a 99.99% figure on the cloud hosting page. The performance story rests on the Google Cloud premium network, the SuperCacher caching stack, NGINX direct delivery, Memcached and the Speed Optimizer plugin. Security covers a continuously updated web application firewall, AI-driven bot filtering, network-layer DDoS defense, account isolation and daily malware scanning. These are the company’s own descriptions rather than independent measurements, and the speed comparisons it publishes are its own.

Support and money-back

Support runs 24 hours a day through live chat, a ticket system and a US phone line, staffed by in-house agents rather than an outsourced desk, with an AI assistant handling simple tasks inside Site Tools. Shared hosting carries a 30-day money-back guarantee; the managed cloud tier carries 14 days. Accepted payment methods shown at checkout are Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover. PayPal is not listed among them.

Verdict

SiteGround is a premium managed host wearing a budget price tag for the first year. The platform, the data center footprint and the support model are genuinely strong, and GrowBig and GoGeek cover most of what a small agency needs. The catch is the renewal: at $17.99 to $44.99 per month it competes with hosts that hand over far more storage and raw resources. Budget for the real price from month thirteen and SiteGround makes sense; treat $2.99 as the price and the second invoice will be a shock.
