Nexcess at a glance

Nexcess is the managed application hosting arm of the company that also owns Liquid Web and Servers.com. The group renamed itself Nexcess Corp. in 2026 and now runs three storefronts: nexcess.com for its enterprise “specialty cloud”, liquidweb.com for managed hosting, and servers.com for bare metal. The original Nexcess site, nexcess.net, no longer exists as a shop; it redirects to Liquid Web, which explains why the same WordPress, WooCommerce and Magento plans are advertised on both brands. Nexcess itself dates back to 2000, when, in its own words, it started “in a garage”, and it is still based in Lansing, Michigan.

Managed application hosting

The core retail product is managed hosting for WordPress, WooCommerce and Magento. Plans are sized by two sliders rather than by server specs: how many sites you need (1, 3, 5, 10 or 25) and how many monthly visitors each site gets (50,000, 150,000 or 400,000). Storage and bandwidth follow the visitor tier: 15 GB and 2 TB at 50k visits, 40 GB and 3 TB at 150k, 100 GB and 5 TB at 400k. No CPU or RAM figure is published for these plans: the environment is autoscaled rather than sold as a fixed server.

Three feature levels sit on top of that grid. Essentials includes automatic WordPress updates, staging sites, visual comparison of updates, a self-service migration tool and seven days of daily backups. Pro extends retention to 14 days and adds Patchstack virtual patching, Stencils and a human-run migration; Elite keeps 30 days of backups. Every plan includes DDoS protection, a web application firewall, Performance Shield, Object Cache Pro and Kadence Security Pro. A single WordPress or WooCommerce site with 50k visits starts at $9 a month, $19 on Pro and $29 on Elite, with 10 percent off for annual billing. Prices climb steeply with visitors and sites.

Magento

Magento is sold separately as four sizes, XS through L, and here the resources are published. XS gives 50 GB of storage, 1 TB of bandwidth, 25 PHP workers and up to 50 autoscaled workers for $74 a month; S is $145 with 75 GB and 2 TB; M is $247 with 125 GB and 3 TB; and L is $409 with 400 GB, 5 TB, 20 vCPU and 20 GB of RAM. Every Magento plan advertises a tuned Varnish and Redis stack, an isolated OpenSearch container, predictive PHP-worker autoscaling, PCI compliance support, a Cloudflare CDN, daily backups and 24/7 Magento specialists. Those rates are the ongoing ones: the advertised price is roughly half off for the first three months and only for new accounts.

Cloud, VPS and dedicated servers

Above the application plans, Nexcess sells managed cloud hosting from $149 a month, managed VPS and managed dedicated servers. These are quoted rather than priced: the site asks you to talk to a solutions architect, and the only published numbers are add-ons. Control panels are InterWorx, free on Linux plans, cPanel at $20, $35 or $50 a month depending on account count, and Plesk at $15 a month for Windows. Acronis-powered backups run from $17 to $2,251 a month depending on storage, per-server DDoS mitigation with 24/7 escalation is $111, Imunify360 malware protection $30 and vulnerability scanning $11. Managed cover includes OS and security patching, firewall management, hardware monitoring, ServerSecure hardening and seven-day Acronis backups, while root access stays with the customer.

Security, uptime and data centers

Nexcess leans hard on compliance: PCI DSS, HIPAA and SOC 2 ready architecture, PHI and cardholder-data segmentation, a managed WAF, always-on Layer 3, 4 and 7 DDoS protection and audit assistance. No filtering capacity is published for the DDoS service, so treat it as a claim rather than a number. The uptime commitments are unusual: 99.99 percent on managed VPS and 99.999 percent power and network on managed dedicated, with service credits applied automatically rather than on request. The company publishes a global map of data centers covering Lansing, Phoenix, Ashburn, San Jose, Dallas, the Bay Area, Washington D.C. and Miami in the United States, plus Amsterdam, London, a UK South region, Luxembourg, Hong Kong, Singapore, Sydney, Sao Paulo and Lagos. The headline count is inconsistent across pages, with 16 data centers on one page and 18 on another, and the company does not say which products run where.

Support and buying

Support is 24/7/365 through portal tickets, in-portal live chat and two published phone lines, and the marketing promises senior engineers rather than a first-line script. Migrations are handled end to end, including DNS, SPF, DKIM and DMARC records, and the ticket stays open until the customer confirms the move worked. What is missing is a published money-back guarantee: the structured data on the managed WordPress page declares a refund period of zero days, and no refund policy is linked from the Nexcess policies page.

Who it suits

Nexcess fits agencies and store owners who want a WordPress, WooCommerce or Magento environment someone else keeps patched, and businesses with PCI or HIPAA obligations that need documentation more than they need a cheap monthly rate. It is a poor fit for anyone shopping on price, anyone who wants to compare vCPU and RAM before buying, and anyone who expects a refund window. Buyers should also know that checkout sits on Liquid Web’s portal, so the brand on the invoice may not match the landing page.
