Bluehost at a glance
Bluehost was founded in 2003 in Provo, Utah, and is now part of Newfold Digital, with its headquarters in Jacksonville, Florida. It is best known as a WordPress host: it has long been recommended on WordPress.org, and it says it serves more than 5 million WordPress users. The current lineup covers shared web hosting, WordPress and WooCommerce hosting, self-managed and managed VPS, cloud hosting and managed dedicated servers, plus a growing set of AI tools and one-click agent hosting.
Who Bluehost is for
- Beginners launching a first WordPress site or small business site who want a guided setup.
- Owners of several small sites who want one dashboard for hosting, domains and email.
- Developers looking for a very cheap self-managed NVMe VPS for containers, n8n or AI agents.
- Businesses that need a managed dedicated server with cPanel and WHM ready to go.
Pricing and renewals
Bluehost’s web hosting prices are quoted on a 36-month term. Starter (10 websites, 10 GB NVMe) is $3.99/mo and renews at $9.99/mo. Business (50 websites, 50 GB NVMe) is $6.99/mo and renews at $13.99/mo, and it adds phone support, a web application firewall, DDoS protection and free domain privacy for the first year. eCommerce Essentials (100 websites, 100 GB NVMe, WooCommerce tools) is $14.99/mo and renews at $21.99/mo. Taxes are extra, and the full term is billed upfront.
The self-managed VPS line is unusually aggressive on price. On a 24-month term, NVMe 2 (1 vCPU, 2 GB DDR5 RAM, 50 GB NVMe) costs $2.09/mo and renews at $4.68/mo, NVMe 4 (2 vCPU, 4 GB, 100 GB) is $4.18/mo renewing at $9.35/mo, NVMe 8 (4 vCPU, 8 GB, 200 GB) is $8.36/mo renewing at $18.70/mo, and NVMe 16 (8 vCPU, 16 GB, 450 GB) is $17.67/mo renewing at $39.53/mo. Bandwidth is unmetered under a fair-use policy. cPanel is an optional add-on starting at $14.99/mo.
Dedicated servers
Managed dedicated servers are also priced on a 36-month term. Standard NVMe 32 (8 cores, 32 GB DDR5, 1 TB NVMe) is $144.19/mo and renews at $191.79/mo, Enhanced NVMe 64 (16 cores, 64 GB, 2 TB) is $220.19/mo renewing at $274.19/mo, and Premium NVMe 128 (32 cores, 128 GB, 3 TB) is $315.19/mo renewing at $394.19/mo. Each includes three dedicated IPs, unmetered bandwidth, root access on AlmaLinux 9 and cPanel/WHM, with provisioning in 24 to 48 hours.
Performance and features
Shared plans now use NVMe storage, a free CDN, static and object caching, staging sites, SSH and WP-CLI, which covers what most WordPress sites need. Weekly backups are included, and malware scanning is free on every tier. The VPS platform uses AMD EPYC CPUs, DDR5 memory and NVMe storage, with DDoS protection and a dedicated IP included. Note that VPS plans are self-managed: cPanel and 24/7 priority support are not included, and a separate Managed VPS line exists for buyers who want Bluehost to run the server.
Data centers
Bluehost does not publish a detailed map for shared hosting and simply lists global data centers. For VPS, you can choose between two US regions (Virginia and Arizona) plus London, Toronto and Amsterdam, which gives decent coverage for both US coasts and for Canadian and European visitors.
Support and guarantees
Support is available 24/7 through live chat, with phone support on Business and higher shared plans. Shared and dedicated plans carry a 30-day money-back guarantee, which does not cover most add-ons such as domains. Bluehost advertises a 99.99% uptime SLA on its hosting infrastructure. Accepted payment methods include credit cards and PayPal.
Verdict
Bluehost remains an easy, beginner-friendly choice for WordPress in the US, and its self-managed NVMe VPS is one of the cheapest ways to get modern hardware for small projects. The catches are long prepaid terms, renewals that roughly double or more, and support limits on the VPS line. Pick Business over Starter if you want phone support and security extras, and compare renewal prices before committing to three years.
